Kathryn L. Hammer, PT, CEAS, CI
Kathryn L. Hammer has owned and operated Hammer Rehab & Fitness since 2002 in the Waukesha Big Bend area. She is a graduate of North Park University and the Mayo Foundation School of Physical Therapy. She is a life-time member of the American Physical Therapy Association. She worked as a school physical therapist and traveling PT before opening her own facility.
She is a licensed WorkSTEPS® Employment Testing provider and Job Site Assessments specialist. Kathy is Certified to perform Functional Capacity Evaluations, (FCE‟s). WorkSTEPS Post Offer Testing and is a Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist. She is also a Certified Clinical Instructor through the APTA and has assisted in training many local PT and PTA students.
Her experience and continuing education training has focused on complex neurological, pediatric, orthopedic rehabilitation sports rehab, manual therapy techniques and industrial rehab.
Karen Ellefson, PT
Karen Ellefson is a graduate of University of Wisconsin/Madison. She is a lifetime member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Karen began her career in Physical Therapy in acute care hospitals, then moved to a rehabilitation facility for a few years. Karen is a skilled Sports Medicine PT who has worked with numerous college, professional and “weekend warrior” athletes. She had her own outpatient physical therapy clinic in Waukesha for many years. She has additional advanced skills such as cranial sacral therapy, myofascial release, strain counterstrain for general orthopedic issues, as well as arthritis. She is also known as the "go to" therapist for Temporal Mandibular Joint pain (TMJ) combined with Myofascial Pain Dysfunction (MPD) relief. Headaches and neck pain are often interrelated symptoms that are relieved with her treatments.
Ann Hessil, PT
Ann Hessil is a graduate of Marquette University with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy and a BS in Physical Education & Fitness from UW-Milwaukee, her collegiate experience consisted of playing basketball for UWM, and she was a member of the Shirley Martin Snitz Women's Semi-Pro Basketball team. Ann offers athletes great insight on practical techniques to improve their performance. Ann is primarily a manual Physical Therapist who works in outpatient orthopedics.
Her forte is her use of Mysofascial Release Techniques (John Barnes trained) for relief of pain and soft tissue dysfunction. Her attention to the structural alignment of the spine, pelvis and extremities allows her clients to get the most from their exercise programs. She has advanced training in the whole spine, Sacro-Iliac Joint Dysfunction, chronic pain, TMJ and headaches.
Ann is certified in Dry Needling techniques which gives her an added technique for relief of stubborn trigger point pain and dysfunction. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of PT and understands the needs of all clients including recreational, High school, college and pro athletes for return to competition and life..Ann is also trained in cupping techniques and uses this technique for many of her clients.
John Barrette PT
John Barrette is a graduate of Marquette University with Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy. John’s extensive experience includes outpatient orthopedics, sports medicine, conditioning fitness in conjunction with strength reconditioning. He has also worked with inpatient geriatrics and hospitals. John has been a physical therapy clinical educator for Marquette University students. He has worked over 30 years as a physical therapist. John is a certified WorkSTEPS Employment Tester. His manual therapy and treatment training includes: John Barnes Myofascial Release, Eastern Shiatsu technique, Joint Mobilization, Neuroprobe techniques, Kinesiotaping, advanced skills for treatment of vertigo and dizziness. John uses his techniques as a means to relieve pain and reduce dysfunction. His goal is to assist his patients to attain strengthening the core and extremity muscles in order to bring the body back into proper alignment and resume full function where possible.

Hammer Rehab and Fitness Center is pleased to have great Front Desk Billing and Ancillary Staff/Rehab Aides to support our clients and our therapists. They are here to make sure your experience is the best in our industry. Our goal is for you to return to a more vigorous lifestyle than when you first begin your therapy program.
Nicole Mueller - Front Desk Aministrative Assistant Person
Nicole Mueller makes sure you are welcomed to our facility each time you arrive or call. She has assisted us in developing and implementing new patient protocols, prompt scheduling, initiating and completing pre-authorizations, setting up new clients in our billing system, billing our insurance companies and posting payments when they are received. She makes sure our therapist’s documentation is timely and accurate. She works with scheduling, billing, posting and reporting for our WorkSTEPS clients as well.
In additional roles, Nicole instructs our student rehab assistants in setting up treatment rooms, answering the phone, keeping the building sparkling clean and helping clients when they need assistance on equipment, getting in and out of the building, scheduling staff members so that there is staff here to support our therapists and clients.
Nicole is also the person who has made our Fitness program begin to hum. She has several clients who she works with as a personal trainer. She also takes care of the billing for Silver Sneakers and our Fitness members.
Dawn Stuczynski, Billing Administrator
Dawn Stuczynski often brings us laughter and a happy spirit when she arrives. Then she gets down to the business of billing; accurate timely data entry, sending our electronic billing, paper billing and monthly invoices to our clients. Dawn is willing to spend time on the phone and researching files to follow up with insurance claims that need attention. She is our credentialing guru and keeps all of our therapists registered with all of our insurance companies so we can serve as many clients as possible as in-network providers.
Nick Jensen is a student in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Carroll University. He is a graduate of the Exercise Science program at Carroll. He works with us as a Rehab Aide, Boot Camp Instructor and Care taker of our grounds. He recently was away from the area to complete an internship in Eau Claire for his therapy degree.
Marina Chen is an exercise science student, pre-Physical Therapy student at Carroll University. She works as an ancillary assistant/rehab aide to keep the building tidy and clean, our laundry done and assists with patients and fitness clients where needed. She teaches boot camp from time to time and has some front desk responsibilities.
Melitta Vellian is an Exercise Science student from Carroll University who desires to become a Physical Therapist. Her job is also as an ancillary assistant/ rehab aide and Boot Camp teacher with tasks to keep the building humming and clean, helping with clients when needed.
Taylor Davis is a Business Major at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Front Desk Person and Administrative Assistant duties has been to assist us in developing a more consistent marketing plan, sending out newsletters, helping send out cards and letters to clients and physicians.
Erin Ferry is an Exercise Science student, pre-physical Therapy student from Carroll University. Working as a rehab aide and ancillary staff. She is our newest employee and is ready and willing to help before we even ask.
